0011| REQUESTING THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE LOCAL
|
0012| GOVERNMENT DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND

0013| ADMINISTRATION TO APPLY FOR AVAILABLE ASSISTANCE FROM
|
0014| FEDERAL HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT FOR THE FAMILY SELF-
|
0015| SUFFICIENCY PROGRAM

0017| WHEREAS, low-income families often encounter barriers
|
0018| to finding affordable housing, accessible transportation,
|
0019| safe and reliable child care and other services and
|
0020| opportunities that lead to economic independence; and
|
0021| WHEREAS, the need for housing, transportation, child
|
0022| care, education and employment are critical to achieving
|
0023| self- sufficiency; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, recipients of payments under the temporary
|
0025| assistance for needy families program will be encouraged
|
0001| to pursue opportunities for achieving economic
|
0002| independence and self-sufficiency under federal and state
|
0003| welfare reform initiatives; and
|
0004| WHEREAS, the housing and urban development department
|
0005| of the federal government has a grant program designed to
|
0006| provide incentives to local and state divisions of
|
0007| government to coordinate rental and voucher assistance
|
0008| with other public and private resources to help low-income
|
0009| families achieve economic independence and self-
|
0010| sufficiency called the "family self-sufficiency program";
|
0011| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF
|
0012| THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the human services department
|
0013| and the local government division of the department of
|
0014| finance and administration to apply for information,
|
0015| technical assistance and funding from the federal housing
|
0016| and urban development department for the family self-
|
0017| sufficiency program; and
|
0018| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that they provide information
|
0019| about the family self-sufficiency program incentives and
|
0020| opportunities to recipients of the temporary assistance
|
0021| for needy families program payments; and
|
0022| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial
|
0023| be sent to the secretary of human services and the
|
0024| director of the local government division of the
|
0025| department of finance and administration.
