0011| RELATING TO LICENSURE; AMENDING THE COUNSELING AND THERAPY

0012| PRACTICE ACT TO REDUCE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR LICENSURE AS A
|
0013| PROFESSIONAL CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR.
|

0015| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0016| Section 1. Section 61-9A-18 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1993,
|
0017| Chapter 49, Section 18) is amended to read:
|
0018| "61-9A-18. LICENSURE WITHOUT EXAMINATION--PROFESSIONAL
|
0019| CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELOR.--An applicant for licensure
|
0020| as a professional clinical mental health counselor may be
|
0021| licensed without examination if:
|
0022| A. the applicant files an application within one
|
0023| year of the effective date of the Counseling and Therapy
|
0024| Practice Act, accompanied by the required fees, and if the
|
0025| board determines that the applicant meets all other
|
0001| requirements for licensure as a professional clinical mental
|
0002| health counselor; or
|
0003| B. the board determines that the applicant:
|
0004| (1) has been engaged in full-time practice of
|
0005| professional clinical mental health counseling for at least
|
0006| five consecutive years prior to the effective date of
|
0007| licensure;
|
0008| (2) has obtained, prior to beginning practice
|
0009| as a professional clinical mental health counselor, a master's
|
0010| or doctoral degree in counseling, psychology or a closely
|
0011| related field, including special education of the emotionally
|
0012| disturbed, art therapy or expressive arts therapy, from an
|
0013| accredited institution; and
|
0014| (3) has been certified to the board as
|
0015| competent by at least three persons who have practiced as
|
0016| professional clinical mental health counselors or state-
|
0017| licensed psychologists or psychiatrists with the applicant
|
0018| during that five-year consecutive period."
