0011|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO MAKE THE SALARIES OF CHILDREN, YOUTH

0012|     AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT SOCIAL WORKERS MORE COMPETITIVE WITH

0013|     THOSE OF SURROUNDING STATES; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--One million three hundred
    |
0017|     eighteen thousand seven hundred fifty-two dollars ($1,318,752)
    |
0018|     is appropriated from the general fund to the children, youth
    |
0019|     and families department for expenditure in fiscal years 1997
    |
0020|     and 1998 for the purpose of providing a one-time seven percent
    |
0021|     pay increase to the department's social workers to make those
    |
0022|     salaries more competitive with those of surrounding states. 
    |
0023|     Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of
    |
0024|     fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the general fund.
    |
0025|          Section 2.  EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public
    |
0001|     peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.                       State of New Mexico
