0011|     RELATING TO LIBRARY SERVICES; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR

0012|     ELECTRONIC INFORMATION THROUGH THE STATE'S LIBRARIES; DECLARING

0013|     AN EMERGENCY.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|          Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--The following amounts are
    |
0017|     appropriated from the general fund to the library division of
    |
0018|     the office of cultural affairs for expenditure in fiscal years
    |
0019|     1997 and 1998 for the following purposes:
    |
0020|               A.  seventy thousand dollars ($70,000) to provide
    |
0021|     statewide access through the internet to full-text electronic
    |
0022|     databases to support distance education, economic development,
    |
0023|     business, consumer health and other information and reference
    |
0024|     needs; and
    |
0025|               B.  one hundred eighty thousand dollars ($180,000)
    |
0001|     to provide regionally based training and support for librarians
    |
0002|     and citizens in the use of the internet and other statewide
    |
0003|     electronic information resources.
    |
0004|          Section 2.  EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public
    |
0005|     peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
