NICELY | 0005| | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| AN ACT | 0011| MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF ALLEVIATING OVERCROWDED | 0012| CONDITIONS IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. | 0013| | 0014| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: | 0015| Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fourteen million eight hundred | 0016| thousand dollars ($14,800,000) is appropriated from the general | 0017| fund for expenditure in fiscal years 1997 and 1998 to the children, | 0018| youth and families department for the purpose of alleviating the | 0019| overcrowding of adjudicated delinquent offenders and youthful | 0020| offenders committed to facilities operated by the department. The | 0021| appropriated money shall be used to pay for the operational costs | 0022| of placing adjudicated delinquent offenders and youthful offenders | 0023| in a correctional facility in which the corrections department | 0024| currently incarcerates female adult inmates, located in Grants. | 0025| The corrections department may use the correctional facility for | 0001| the commitment of delinquent offenders and youthful offenders | 0002| placed in the custody of the children, youth and families | 0003| department, pursuant to a joint powers agreement entered into | 0004| by the corrections department and the children, youth and | 0005| families department. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance | 0006| remaining at the end of fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the | 0007| general fund. | 0008| Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public | 0009| peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately. | 0010| - 2 - |
