0001| SENATE JOINT MEMORIAL 4 | 0002| 42ND LEGISLATURE - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - FIRST SPECIAL | 0003| SESSION, 1996 | 0004| INTRODUCED BY | 0005| JOHN PINTO | 0006| | 0007| | 0008| | 0009| | 0010| | 0011| A JOINT MEMORIAL | 0012| REQUESTING THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO, THE CITY OF GALLUP, THE | 0013| NAVAJO NATION AND THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS TO CONDUCT A | 0014| FEASIBILITY STUDY ON THE ADVISABILITY AND LOCATION OF A TRANSFER | 0015| STATION AT TWIN LAKES IN MCKINLEY COUNTY. | 0016| | 0017| WHEREAS, the Twin Lakes chapter of the Navajo nation, a | 0018| small community located in McKinley county, is experiencing | 0019| problems with trash dumping and resultant impacts on the health | 0020| and welfare of its residents; and | 0021| WHEREAS, the problem of trash dumping has been addressed by | 0022| the chapter and local officials to no avail and is, accordingly, | 0023| getting worse; and | 0024| WHEREAS, the Twin Lakes chapter has selected a potential | 0025| site for the location of a transfer station and has completed | 0001| all archaeological reports and has satisfied other preliminary | 0002| requirements for the location of a transfer station; and | 0003| WHEREAS, the state of New Mexico, the city of Gallup, the | 0004| Navajo nation, the bureau of Indian affairs and the Twin Lakes | 0005| chapter all have an interest in the location and establishment | 0006| of a transfer station for the Twin Lakes chapter; | 0007| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE | 0008| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state of New Mexico, the city of | 0009| Gallup, the Navajo nation and the bureau of Indian affairs be | 0010| requested to conduct a feasibility study in conjunction with the | 0011| Twin Lakes chapter as to the advisability and potential location | 0012| of a transfer station to meet the needs of the Twin Lakes | 0013| chapter; and | 0014| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be | 0015| transmitted to the department of environment, the city of | 0016| Gallup, the president and council of the Navajo nation and the | 0017| bureau of Indian affairs. | 0018| - 2 - |
