0012|     PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 12 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF NEW

0013|     MEXICO ADDING A NEW SECTION 16 TO REQUIRE THAT NOT LESS THAN

0014|     FIFTY PERCENT OF ALL GENERAL FUND APPROPRIATIONS FOR THE

0015|     OPERATION OF STATE GOVERNMENT BE MADE FOR SUPPORT OF THE PUBLIC

0018|     BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

0019|       Section 1.  It is proposed to amend Article 12 of the
    |
0020|     constitution of New Mexico by adding a new Section 16 to read:
    |
0021|       "The legislature shall appropriate annually for the support
    |
0022|     of a uniform system of free public schools not less than fifty
    |
0023|     percent of all general fund appropriations for the operation of
    |
0024|     government in the subsequent fiscal year."
    |
0025|       Section 2.  The amendment proposed by this resolution shall
    |
0001|     be submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at
    |
0002|     the next general election or at any special election prior to
    |
0003|     that date which may be called for that purpose.
