0012| SEEKING TO INVITE THE BASS ANGLERS SPORTSMAN SOCIETY TO CONDUCT

0016| WHEREAS, Elephant Butte reservoir in Sierra county is
|
0017| widely known as an excellent bass fishery; and
|
0018| WHEREAS, New Mexico bass fishing clubs regularly hold
|
0019| successful catch-and-release bass fishing tournaments at
|
0020| Elephant Butte reservoir; and
|
0021| WHEREAS, the New Mexico bass federation is affiliated with
|
0022| the bass anglers sportsman society (B.A.S.S.), the world's
|
0023| largest fishing organization; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, the bass anglers sportsman society is interested
|
0025| in expanding their bassmaster invitational tournament trail
|
0001| schedule to include a western division; and
|
0002| WHEREAS, B.A.S.S. gains recognition for the sport of bass
|
0003| fishing, fosters a respect for the resource and has become one
|
0004| of the nation's leading publishers and multimedia companies in
|
0005| the outdoor field in that its magazine reaches six million
|
0006| readers and its television program reaches forty-three million
|
0007| households each year; and
|
0008| WHEREAS, bassmaster invitational tournaments benefit host
|
0009| communities by enhancing tourism, creating press and television
|
0010| site exposure, providing immediate positive economic impacts in
|
0011| excess of eight hundred thousand dollars ($800,000) and
|
0012| promoting ongoing goodwill; and
|
0013| WHEREAS, the New Mexico bass federation, the communities of
|
0014| Truth or Consequences, Elephant Butte Dam and Williamsburg, the
|
0015| county of Sierra and the state would stand to gain in many ways
|
0016| by hosting an annual bassmasters invitational tournament at
|
0017| Elephant Butte reservoir;
|
0018| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE
|
0019| OF NEW MEXICO that the state, Sierra county and the communities
|
0020| of Truth or Consequences, Elephant Butte Dam and Williamsburg be
|
0021| encouraged to invite B.A.S.S. to consider including Elephant
|
0022| Butte reservoir on their western division invitational
|
0023| tournament trail; and
|
0024| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that these parties be encouraged to
|
0025| work together to seek to sponsor a bassmaster invitational
|
0001| tournament at Elephant Butte reservoir in the spring of 1998 and
|
0002| each year thereafter; and
|
0003| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0004| transmitted to the governor; the secretary of energy, minerals
|
0005| and natural resources; the state game commission; the Sierra
|
0006| county commission; the mayor of Truth or Consequences; the New
|
0007| Mexico bass federation and the bass anglers sportsman society.
