0012| REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES POST OFFICE AND THE SOCORRO COUNTY

0013| COMMISSION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE COMMUNITY OF SAN ACACIA TO

0014| SAN ACACIO.

0016| WHEREAS, San Acacia is a farming and ranching community
|
0017| about fourteen miles north of Socorro; and
|
0018| WHEREAS, San Acacia is named for San Acacio who is said to
|
0019| have been a Roman soldier slain in early christian times for his
|
0020| faith and who was represented by the santeros as crucified and
|
0021| dressed in a Spanish uniform; and
|
0022| WHEREAS, the change in the spelling of the name might have
|
0023| resulted from confusion with the acacia tree;
|
0024| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0025| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the United States postal service and
|
0001| the Socorro county commission be requested to change the name of
|
0002| San Acacia to San Acacio; and
|
0003| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0004| transmitted to the Socorro county commission and to the chief of
|
0005| the United States postal service.
