0012| REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE EDUCATION STUDY COMMITTEE TO STUDY

0013| ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE

0014| STATE AND TO DEVELOP CRITERIA FOR A STATEWIDE CURRICULUM.

0016| WHEREAS, House Memorial 39 in the 1994 legislative session
|
0017| asked the state land office to work with schools around the
|
0018| state in providing environmental education opportunities; and
|
0019| WHEREAS, more than fifty schools at all grade levels have
|
0020| some form of environmental education through conventional
|
0021| biology, geography, general science, English, history, math or
|
0022| social studies; and
|
0023| WHEREAS, several state agencies have cooperated with public
|
0024| school systems to provide assistance for environmental education
|
0025| classes, including the state land office, the office of cultural
|
0001| affairs, the department of environment, the energy, minerals and
|
0002| natural resources department, the department of game and fish
|
0003| and others;
|
0004| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE
|
0005| OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative education study committee be
|
0006| requested to study the quality, quantity and variety of
|
0007| environmental education activities around the state, identify
|
0008| the composition of the curricula, identify resources available
|
0009| to teachers, develop a uniform criteria for a statewide
|
0010| curriculum and report to the legislature by December 1, 1996
|
0011| with its recommendations; and
|
0012| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0013| transmitted to the legislative education study committee.
