0012| REQUESTING CONGRESS AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT THE

0013| WORK OF THE NATIONAL PRIMATE CENTER FOR THE STUDY OF AGING.

0015| WHEREAS, the national primate center for the study of aging
|
0016| located at Holloman air force base and at the White Sands
|
0017| research center in Alamogordo specializes in research in
|
0018| geriatric medicine; and
|
0019| WHEREAS, the center is a preeminent research facility
|
0020| dedicated to furthering education, science and world health, and
|
0021| one of its accomplishments was the development of the hepatitis
|
0022| B viral vaccine; and
|
0023| WHEREAS, geriatric medicine does not receive the financial
|
0024| support and attention that other, more glamorous medical
|
0025| research receives; and
|
0001| WHEREAS, within the next fifteen years the population of
|
0002| Americans over the age of sixty-five will double, and diseases
|
0003| of old age will be much more costly and extensive; and
|
0004| WHEREAS, we are reaching a time when geriatric medical
|
0005| research will be critical;
|
0006| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0007| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislature support the goals and
|
0008| objectives of the national primate center for the study of
|
0009| aging; and
|
0010| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States congress and
|
0011| the federal government be asked to support the national primate
|
0012| center for the study of aging in its important research for the
|
0013| benefit of New Mexicans, other Americans and all mankind; and
|
0014| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0015| transmitted to the members of the New Mexico congressional
|
0016| delegation and to the president of the United States.
