0012| REQUESTING THAT THE STATE HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

0013| DESIGNATE A PORTION OF UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 62/180 AS PEARL

0014| HARBOR MEMORIAL HIGHWAY.

0016| WHEREAS, this year will mark the fifty-fifth anniversary of
|
0017| the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, which marked America's
|
0018| entry into World War II; and
|
0019| WHEREAS, many young men and young women lost their lives in
|
0020| Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941; and
|
0021| WHEREAS, many other American men and women served their
|
0022| country bravely and were wounded or lost their lives during the
|
0023| four years following Pearl Harbor; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, designating a portion of United States highway
|
0025| 62/180 as Pearl Harbor memorial highway would be a fitting
|
0001| tribute to the selfless efforts of a generation of Americans who
|
0002| placed love of country and freedom before personal safety;
|
0003| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0004| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it request that the state highway and
|
0005| transportation department designate the following portion of
|
0006| United States highway 62/180 as Pearl Harbor memorial highway: a
|
0007| one hundred ten-mile section of the highway beginning at the
|
0008| Texas-New Mexico border east of Hobbs and ending in Whites City;
|
0009| and
|
0010| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be
|
0011| transmitted to the secretary of highway and transportation.
