0012| REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO STUDY THE GROWING NEEDS

0013| OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN WITH THE HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS OR
|
0014| ACQUIRED IMMUNE DEFICIENCY SYNDROME.

0016| WHEREAS, women of child-bearing age as a group comprise one
|
0017| of the largest and fastest-growing segments of new HIV and AIDS
|
0018| cases; and
|
0019| WHEREAS, there exists a dire need to increase public
|
0020| awareness, support and information about women and children
|
0021| living with HIV and AIDS; and
|
0022| WHEREAS, women and children living with HIV and AIDS often
|
0023| have expensive special child care needs; and
|
0024| WHEREAS, there is a need to provide education and training
|
0025| for child care providers serving children with HIV and AIDS; and
|
0001| WHEREAS, various health care professionals, including
|
0002| obstetricians and gynecologists, and health care facilities
|
0003| throughout the state are in need of training in order to offer
|
0004| sensitive and knowledgeable care and treatment to women with HIV
|
0005| and AIDS; and
|
0006| WHEREAS, there is a marked lack of studies, research or
|
0007| clinical trials related specifically to women living with HIV
|
0008| and AIDS; and
|
0009| WHEREAS, there is a need for increased emotional support
|
0010| and counseling for children and families living with HIV and
|
0011| AIDS;
|
0012| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0013| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the department of health study the
|
0014| needs of women and children living with HIV and AIDS; and
|
0015| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study include participation
|
0016| by women and children living with HIV and AIDS and various
|
0017| service and provider organizations and advocacy groups working
|
0018| with the HIV and AIDS community; and
|
0019| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study include examination
|
0020| of and need for HIV and AIDS school support groups and family
|
0021| camps where communication and therapy opportunities are
|
0022| available; and
|
0023| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study examine the
|
0024| possibility of providing emergency financial support for
|
0025| families experiencing an HIV or AIDS crisis; and
|
0001| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the study include the issue of
|
0002| fair housing opportunities for women and families living with
|
0003| HIV and AIDS; and
|
0004| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be sent
|
0005| to the department of health and to various organizations
|
0006| providing services and advocacy to the HIV and AIDS community.
