0012| REQUESTING THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO CONSIDER INCREASING ARMED

0013| GUARDS AT THE STATE CAPITOL DURING THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND

0014| EMPLOYING ARMED GUARDS DURING THE INTERIM.

0016| WHEREAS, extremists have targeted public buildings for
|
0017| assault in order to express their violent political goals; and
|
0018| WHEREAS, such extremists blew up a federal government
|
0019| building in Oklahoma City, killing almost two hundred innocent
|
0020| people in the process; and
|
0021| WHEREAS, bomb threats directed at New Mexico's state
|
0022| capitol have been received by local authorities; and
|
0023| WHEREAS, a visiting legislator's purse was snatched on the
|
0024| capitol grounds in the fall of 1995; and
|
0025| WHEREAS, the capitol has been the target of graffiti
|
0001| vandals;
|
0002| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0003| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the legislative council consider
|
0004| increasing armed guards during the legislative session and
|
0005| employing armed guards during the interim; and
|
0006| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0007| transmitted to the co-chairmen of the legislative council and to
|
0008| the director of the legislative council service.
