0012| REQUESTING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO CONDUCT A

0013| FEASIBILITY STUDY TO INVESTIGATE AND EVALUATE THE MERITS OF

0014| IMPLEMENTING AN ACADEMY PROGRAM IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL OF

0015| PUBLIC EDUCATION IN ALBUQUERQUE.

0017| WHEREAS, the Albuquerque public schools have successfully
|
0018| instituted an academy program at the high school level; and
|
0019| WHEREAS, the educational needs of students in New Mexico
|
0020| are varied, diverse and unique, as to both the student
|
0021| personally and the environment in which the student lives; and
|
0022| WHEREAS, education should not and need not be static,
|
0023| routine or rote; indeed, education should and needs to be
|
0024| dynamic, innovative and creative; and
|
0025| WHEREAS, many advantages of the academy program realized
|
0001| from its institution in the Albuquerque public schools at the
|
0002| high school level appear to be potentially beneficial to younger
|
0003| students at the middle school level; and
|
0004| WHEREAS, all efforts and possible alternatives available to
|
0005| promote achievement of the greatest potential of each of New
|
0006| Mexico's students should be explored and, if feasible, adopted;
|
0007| and
|
0008| WHEREAS, instituting the academy program at the middle
|
0009| school level may be an acceptable and advisable educational
|
0010| alternative for students at the middle school level;
|
0011| NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE
|
0012| STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state department of public
|
0013| education in cooperation with the Albuquerque public school
|
0014| district and other educational interests conduct a study into
|
0015| the feasibility of implementing the academy program in the
|
0016| middle school level of public education and provide its findings
|
0017| to the first session of the forty-third legislature; and
|
0018| BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
|
0019| transmitted to the state department of public education and the
|
0020| Albuquerque public school district.
