0012| MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE ADULT LITERACY SERVICES

0013| THROUGHOUT THE STATE.

0015| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
|
0016| Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred thousand dollars
|
0017| ($100,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the library
|
0018| division of the office of cultural affairs for expenditure in
|
0019| fiscal year 1997 for the purpose of contracting with a statewide
|
0020| nonprofit adult literacy organization to promote, coordinate and
|
0021| enhance adult and intergenerational literacy opportunities and
|
0022| services throughout the state. This appropriation is designated
|
0023| for training, technical assistance and operating support for
|
0024| volunteer-based literacy programs statewide, emphasizing
|
0025| activities designed to interrupt intergenerational cycles of
|
0001| illiteracy and to promote public/private partnerships to address
|
0002| the challenge of illiteracy in New Mexico. Any unexpended or
|
0003| unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 1997
|
0004| shall revert to the general fund.
