0012|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR RE:LEARNING AND SYSTEMIC INITIATIVE

0013|     IN MATH AND SCIENCE EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|       Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--
    |
0017|            A.  One million four hundred thousand dollars
    |
0018|     ($1,400,000) is appropriated from the general fund for the
    |
0019|     following distributions to the following entities for
    |
0020|     expenditure in fiscal year 1997 to match two million five
    |
0021|     hundred thousand dollars ($2,500,000) in federal and private
    |
0022|     donations for the purpose of continuing the re:learning and
    |
0023|     systemic initiative in math and science education programs to
    |
0024|     support school improvement in mathematics and science education
    |
0025|     in all grades of public school:
    |
0001|                 (1)  nine hundred thousand dollars ($900,000) to
    |
0002|     the board of regents of eastern New Mexico university; and
    |
0003|                 (2)  five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) to
    |
0004|     the board of regents of the university of New Mexico.
    |
0005|            B.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining
    |
0006|     at the end of fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the general fund.
