APPROPRIATIONS.--The amounts and purposes | 0007| specified in the appropriations to the agencies set forth in | 0008| Sections 2 through 8 of this act may be expended in fiscal years | 0009| 1997 and 1998. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining | 0010| from the appropriations specified in Sections 2 through 8 of | 0011| this act at the end of fiscal year 1998 shall revert to the | 0012| general fund. | 0013| Section 2. DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION--APPROPRIATION.--Seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) is | 0014| appropriated from the general fund to the local government | 0015| division of the department of finance and administration for the | 0016| purpose of contracting with a nonprofit organization to offer | 0017| services to prevent juvenile crime, drug abuse and gang | 0018| activity, with staffing by off-duty and retired law enforcement | 0019| personnel in Albuquerque located in Bernalillo county. | 0020| Section 3. UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO--APPROPRIATIONS.--The | 0021| following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the | 0022| board of regents of the university of New Mexico for the | 0023| following purposes: | 0024| A. one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) for the | 0025| purpose of continuing a program that encourages adolescents to | 0001| prepare for college by guaranteeing admission to the university | 0002| of New Mexico if certain grade point average criteria are met; | 0003| and | 0004| B. two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) for | 0005| family development training programs for the purpose of | 0006| increasing the participation of low-income parents in the | 0007| education of their children. | 0008| Section 4. STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION--APPROPRIATIONS.--The following amounts are appropriated from the | 0009| general fund to the state department of public education for the | 0010| following purposes: | 0011| A. sixty-five thousand dollars ($65,000) for the | 0012| purpose of funding a pilot program to demonstrate and measure | 0013| the effectiveness of the self-assessment testing model for use | 0014| by secondary schools; | 0015| B. fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for the purpose | 0016| of funding the parents as teachers program in the Ruidoso | 0017| municipal school district in Lincoln county; and | 0018| C. seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) for the | 0019| purpose of funding the Gavilan Canyon school adolescent day | 0020| treatment center in the Ruidoso municipal school district in | 0021| Lincoln county. | 0022| Section 5. OFFICE OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS--APPROPRIATION.--Fifty | 0023| thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to | 0024| the office of cultural affairs for the purpose of establishing a | 0025| tribal historic preservation office for the Jicarilla Apache tribe | 0001| located in Rio Arriba county. | 0002| Section 6. CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES DEPARTMENT--APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated | 0003| from the general fund to the children, youth and families | 0004| department for the purpose of contracting with community providers | 0005| for continuation of a statewide volunteer program of companionship | 0006| for at-risk low-income children six to sixteen years of age from | 0007| single-parent homes. | 0008| Section 7. EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY--APPROPRIATION.--Twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) is appropriated from the general | 0009| fund to the board of regents of eastern New Mexico university for | 0010| the purpose of providing staff to maintain the exhibit building at | 0011| Blackwater Draw, a national historical site near Portales in | 0012| Roosevelt county. | 0013| Section 8. DISTRICT ATTORNEYS' EXPERT WITNESS FUND--APPROPRIATION.--Contingent upon the enactment into law of House | 0014| Bill 307 of the second session of the forty-second legislature, | 0015| seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) is appropriated from the | 0016| general fund to the district attorneys' expert witness fund to | 0017| carry out the purposes of the District Attorneys' Expert Witness | 0018| Act. | 0019| Section 9.
