0012|     MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO CONTINUE A PROGRAM ENCOURAGING

0013|     ADOLESCENTS TO PURSUE A COLLEGE EDUCATION.

0015|     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
    |
0016|       Section 1.  APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand
    |
0017|     dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the
    |
0018|     board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure
    |
0019|     in fiscal year 1997 to continue a program that encourages
    |
0020|     adolescents to prepare for college by guaranteeing admission to
    |
0021|     the university of New Mexico if certain grade point average
    |
0022|     criteria are met.  Any unexpended or unencumbered balance
    |
0023|     remaining at the end of fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the
    |
0024|     general fund.

0019|       1.   On page 1, line 21, after the period insert "The

0020|   institution receiving the appropriations in this bill shall submit
    |
0021|   a program evaluation to the legislative finance committee and the
    |
0022|   commission on higher education by August 1, 1999 detailing the
    |
0023|   benefits to the state of New Mexico from having this program
    |
0024|   implemented for a three-year period.".,
