0001| AN ACT | 0002| MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PROMOTION, MARKETING ASSISTANCE AND | 0003| DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION TO LOCAL FARMERS' MARKETS STATEWIDE; | 0004| DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. | 0005| | 0006| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO: | 0007| Section 1. APPROPRIATION--REPORTS.-- | 0008| A. Seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000) is appropriated | 0009| from the general fund to the cooperative extension service for | 0010| expenditure in fiscal years 1996 and 1997 for the purpose of promoting | 0011| local farmers' markets throughout the state and to disseminate | 0012| educational, nutritional and food-safety information to local farmers' | 0013| markets. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of | 0014| fiscal year 1997 shall revert to the general fund. | 0015| B. In providing marketing, promotional and farm-direct | 0016| marketing assistance to local farmers' markets, the cooperative | 0017| extension service shall require an annual report from each farmers' | 0018| market organization. The report shall demonstrate the extent to which | 0019| the market provides information to nutritionally at-risk families and | 0020| how the market's efforts have increased consumer awareness of farmers' | 0021| markets and farm-direct marketing possibilities. | 0022| Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, | 0023| health and safety that this act take effect immediately. |
