A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING PB&J FAMILY SERVICES, ALSO KNOWN AS PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY, AND PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 7, 2023 "PB&J DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, PB&J family services was founded in 1972 in Albuquerque's southwest valley in response to a scarcity of services and supports for children at-risk and their families; and
WHEREAS, PB&J's mission is to serve at-risk children to ensure that they grow to their full potential, within nurturing families, in a supportive community; and
WHEREAS, the services provided by PB&J are rooted in the experiences of the first children and families served by PB&J, whose mothers were receiving county mental health services; and
WHEREAS, for over fifty years, PB&J has continued to support communities and families, embracing families where they are, including in prisons and jails, and responding to the needs of children and families that have emerged in a changing society; and
WHEREAS, PB&J has developed programs to support unique families, developing home-based programs to support parents with developmental disabilities and those whose substance use impacts their ability to care for their children; and
WHEREAS, PB&J's main site in Albuquerque's southwest valley is eighty years old and in deteriorating condition to the point of facing condemnation; and
WHEREAS, PB&J is hopeful that legislative support will be extended to relocate PB&J to a safe, suitable site; and
WHEREAS, PB&J is unique in its commitment to offer ongoing, cutting-edge, comprehensive, developmental and wraparound services for over half a century; and
WHEREAS, PB&J has been a beacon of hope for thousands of at-risk children and families, serving, in many instances, generations to reunite and restore environments where children grow in loving, healthy and secure families; and
WHEREAS, for fifty years, PB&J has been a critical therapeutic resource to many state government departments and agencies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that recognition be extended to PB&J family services for its critical role in supporting the communities and families of Albuquerque's southwest valley and the greater Bernalillo and Sandoval county areas; and that February 7, 2023 be proclaimed "PB&J Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to PB&J family services.
