AN ACT
RELATING TO MUNICIPALITIES; REQUIRING MUNICIPALITIES TO PRESERVE VIDEO RECORDINGS FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY DAYS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. [NEW MATERIAL] PRESERVATION OF VIDEO RECORDINGS.--
A. A municipality that monitors or has the ability to monitor thirty-five or more cameras located in that municipality shall preserve all audio and video records from every camera for a minimum of one hundred eighty days in accordance with Section 14-16-12 NMSA 1978.
B. As used in this section, "cameras" include security footage, traffic cameras, dashboard cameras and other cameras used by the municipality, but does not include lapel cameras from any municipal officer or other municipal official.
