AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO PROVIDE SCHOOL DISTRICTS WITH FUNDING FOR INCENTIVES TO INCREASE STUDENT ATTENDANCE; PROVIDING REQUIREMENTS TO RECEIVE THE INCENTIVE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--
A. Sixty-seven million dollars ($67,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 to provide school districts with funding for incentives to increase student attendance. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund.
B. The public education department shall determine a distribution of funds to each school district in the state based on student enrollment.
C. Each school district shall provide an incentive to a student who is not chronically or excessively absent, as defined in Section 22-12A-2 NMSA 1978, by the end of the school year.
