INTRODUCED BY

A MEMORIAL
DECLARING MARCH 18, 2021 "BOW TIE DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, members of the house of representatives are encouraged to wear the much-celebrated bow tie, which was introduced in the seventeenth century and has remained a staple of fashion since its inception more than three centuries ago; and
WHEREAS, the bow tie has experienced a resurgence in recent years and has been seen on various fashion-conscious gentlemen and ladies, even those not attending formal black-tie affairs; and
WHEREAS, in honor of this splendid accoutrement, national bow tie day is celebrated on August 28 of each year; and
WHEREAS, in proper celebration of that event and the fashion statement that a bow tie never fails to make, and in celebration of bipartisanship in this chamber, the house of representatives honors "Bow Tie Day" and hopes that every man and woman across beautiful New Mexico can experience the aesthetic pleasure of wearing a well-crafted and fashionable bow tie; and
WHEREAS, bow ties do not detract from the bolo tie, New Mexico's official state tie, but provide another fashion-forward option; and
WHEREAS, in declaring "Bow Tie Day" in these chambers, the house of representatives pays tribute to the bow tie while hoping that more men and women accept the accessory into their wardrobe in the future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that March 18, 2021 be declared "Bow Tie Day" in the house of representatives; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to members of the house of representatives.
