A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION TO NAME A FRONTAGE ROAD IN QUAY COUNTY ALONG INTERSTATE 40 FROM MONTOYA TO TUCUMCARI "HENDREN ROAD" IN HONOR OF THE HENDREN FAMILY.

 

     WHEREAS, requests for the designation or dedication by name of any department of transportation road are submitted to the state transportation commission for approval; and

     WHEREAS, a requested designation by name is intended as a memorial to an event, a person or persons of significance or intended as an honor to a person or person of national esteem; and

     WHEREAS, the Hendren family has a long and illustrious history in Quay county; and

     WHEREAS, Sylvan R. Hendren served honorably as a Quay county commissioner while New Mexico was still a territory; and

     WHEREAS, Lucien Hendren, Sr., served honorably in support of the war effort during World War II as a civilian employee deployed to build runways at Muroc army airfield, now Edwards air force base, in California, and gave further honorable service as a Quay county deputy sheriff; and

     WHEREAS, Father Lucian C. Hendren provided pastoral leadership to the residents of Quay county and Bernalillo county, serving parishes in Albuquerque and Corrales, and on special occasions officiating at St. Anne's parish in Tucumcari, while serving as chancellor of the archdiocese of Santa Fe; and

     WHEREAS, Vincent L. Hendren served New Mexico and the United States honorably as a United States marine during the Vietnam Conflict; and

     WHEREAS, it would be a fitting honor to recognize the contributions of the Hendren family by having a frontage road named after the family;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state transportation commission be requested to name a frontage road in Quay county along interstate 40 from Montoya to Tucumcari "Hendren Road" in honor of the Hendren family; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the state transportation commission and to Vincent L. Hendren.
