AN ACT

RELATING TO MEAT INSPECTIONS; AUTHORIZING THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY AND QUALITY OF MEAT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. Section 76-1-1 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1974, Chapter 35, Section 1) is amended to read:

     "76-1-1. CREATION OF THE NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY--POWERS.--

          A. The "New Mexico department of agriculture" is created under the control of the board of regents of New Mexico state university.

          B. The New Mexico department of agriculture may adopt and promulgate rules for meat inspection to ensure the safety and quality of meat for human consumption."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2021.
