A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENERGY, MINERALS AND NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT TO ENCOURAGE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW INVENTIONS WITHIN THE STATE AND SUPPORT NEW MEXICO'S INVENTORS.
WHEREAS, the state of New Mexico has produced inventors that have made an impact on the United States and the world; and
WHEREAS, the development of new inventions provides an enormous opportunity for economic development within this state; and
WHEREAS, Bill Gates began developing computer operating software in New Mexico, eventually making an impact on technology used all over the world; and
WHEREAS, other inventions like the nicotine patch, the first personal computer and the water disruptor originated in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico could lose significant opportunities if it fails to support its inventors, and it could realize unlimited economic benefits by supporting inventors and the development of inventions that come from New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico-based companies, such as MDL Enterprises LLC, are working on new innovations related to renewable energy, such as hydroelectric and wind power generation, as well as electric vehicle charging systems that support the objectives of the Energy Transition Act; and
WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to study additional methods to provide support to New Mexico's inventors and to encourage new growth in the development of innovative technologies in the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the economic development department be requested to study methods to encourage development of new inventions within the state and support New Mexico's inventors; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the energy, minerals and natural resources department be requested to contribute to the study of and provide input on methods to encourage development of new technology to promote the use of renewable energy sources; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of economic development and the secretary of energy, minerals and natural resources.
