A MEMORIAL
REQUESTING THAT THE STATE TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION DEDICATE STATE ROAD 522 AS "SENATOR CARLOS R. CISNEROS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
WHEREAS, Carlos R. Cisneros was born in Questa on May 13, 1948 and died unexpectedly on September 17, 2019 at the age of seventy-one; and
WHEREAS, after high school, Carlos worked at the Molycorp mine and, while there, served as president of the mine employees' union, local 4-659 of the oil, chemical and atomic workers; and
WHEREAS, Carlos spent many years in politics, first as chair of the Taos county board of county commissioners and then thirty-four years representing district 6 in the state senate; and
WHEREAS, Senator Carlos R. Cisneros brought a wealth of expertise and wisdom to the New Mexico legislature and was highly respected by his many colleagues;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state transportation commission be requested to dedicate the entire length of state road 522, from its junction with United States highway 64 in Taos county to the New Mexico and Colorado state line, as the "Senator Carlos R. Cisneros Memorial Highway"; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of transportation and the family of Senator Carlos R. Cisneros.
