A MEMORIAL
DECLARING JANUARY 23, 2020 "NEW MEXICO'S NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, the national blue ribbon schools program was created in 1982 by then United States Secretary of Education Terrel H. Bell to bring public attention to the best schools in the United States; and
WHEREAS, three outstanding New Mexico schools, career enrichment center and early college academy in Albuquerque, Ladera del Norte elementary school in Farmington and Logan elementary school in Logan, have been designated by United States Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos as 2019 national blue ribbon schools; and
WHEREAS, these three schools were nominated by the New Mexico public education department for this high national honor for improving student outcomes and closing achievement gaps in their classrooms; and
WHEREAS, these high-performing schools, using standards of excellence evidenced by student achievement measures, have joined the ranks of thirty-nine other New Mexico schools that have been awarded this singular honor in the past; and
WHEREAS, receiving the coveted blue ribbon schools award attests to the quality of education students are receiving in these schools; and
WHEREAS, recognition by the national blue ribbon schools program affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students can master challenging and engaging content;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 23, 2020 be declared "New Mexico's National Blue Ribbon Schools Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the senate join in congratulating career enrichment center and early college academy, Ladera del Norte elementary school and Logan elementary school and their administrators and students upon receiving this well-deserved national recognition; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the principals of career enrichment center and early college academy, Ladera del Norte elementary school and Logan elementary school.
