A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING WILLIAM JAMES "BILL" MOORE AND RECOGNIZING HIS SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO AND THE NATION.
WHEREAS, William James "Bill" Moore faithfully served his country as a member of the United States air force from 1961 to 1965 and was stationed at Holloman air force base; and
WHEREAS, as a Vietnam conflict veteran, Bill served as an honor guard for President John F. Kennedy; and
WHEREAS, upon his honorable discharge from the United States air force, Bill adopted beautiful New Mexico as his new home and was employed at Holloman air force base at the ratscat facility, working for general dynamics; and
WHEREAS, to raise additional funds for his family, Bill rode the famous rocket sled several times; and
WHEREAS, for fourteen years beginning in 1974, Bill served the village of Tularosa as an elected trustee and mayor pro tempore during the terms of three New Mexico governors; and
WHEREAS, Bill was committed to compassionately advocating for the village of Tularosa at local, state and federal levels; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as a trustee, Bill was actively involved with the New Mexico municipal league, serving on behalf of the community on several committees; and
WHEREAS, Bill was very proud of many of the projects he saw accomplished as trustee and mayor pro tempore, but was most proud of securing both state and federal funding for the Tularosa senior and community center; and
WHEREAS, the Tularosa senior and community center is a tremendous asset to the community, complete with an internationally trained chef; and
WHEREAS, Bill was an entrepreneur, owning J and J mini mart in Tularosa for many years, and also worked for waste management of New Mexico, Bernalillo county, cascade engineering and State Senator Billy McKibben; and
WHEREAS, in all of his positions, Bill made it a priority to impact each community in which he served by giving back; and
WHEREAS, most recently, Bill and his wife, Debbi, lived in the communities of Rio Rancho and Las Cruces, where he was fondly known as the "volunteer by marriage", always supportive and by Debbi's side at chamber of commerce, community and legislative events; and
WHEREAS, with his unexpected and untimely passing, Bill left a tremendous legacy of giving, love and compassion for his adopted home of New Mexico and for his beloved wife, Debbi, and his six children, Winston, Karen, Tim, Michelle, Anita and David;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that William James "Bill" Moore be recognized and honored for his commitment and dedication as a United States air force veteran and for his public service to the people of New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the family of William James "Bill" Moore.
