A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 11, 2019 "UNM SCHOOL OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, on February 11, 1969, the university of New Mexico faculty approved the proposal submitted by university of New Mexico vice president Chester Travelstead for the establishment of a division of public administration; and

     WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of public administration is the oldest public administration program in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of public administration is one of the original seventeen programs accredited over forty years ago by the network of schools of public policy, affairs and administration; and

     WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of public administration has over two thousand graduates, seventy-five percent of whom live, work and serve communities throughout New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of public administration's graduates have served in elected offices at the highest levels of government in the state, including state treasurer, secretary of state, state senators and representatives; and

     WHEREAS, the university of New Mexico school of public administration includes graduates serving in appointed senior leadership positions throughout the state, such as city and county managers, department directors and other important high-level posts; and

     WHEREAS, in 2018, U.S. News & World Report ranked the university of New Mexico school of public administration in the top one hundred public affairs programs in the United States;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the leadership, accomplishments and contributions of the university of New Mexico school of public administration to the state be recognized; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 11, 2019 be declared "UNM School of Public Administration Day" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the university of New Mexico school of public administration, the governor, the chair and vice chair of the legislative finance committee, the director of the legislative finance committee, the mayor of the city of Albuquerque, the Bernalillo county board of county commissioners and the members of the New Mexico congressional delegation.
