A MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 7, 2019 AS "CENTRAL NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY COLLEGE DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has provided New Mexicans with access to high-quality and affordable higher education for fifty-four years; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college serves the state's largest undergraduate student body by providing relevant, real-world career and technical training, as well as courses and degrees that transfer to four-year state universities; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has ranked number one among more than one thousand one hundred two-year colleges in the United States for the number of associate's degrees and certificates earned by both Native Americans and Hispanics; and central New Mexico community college has ranked number two for overall associate's degrees and certificates awarded; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college is New Mexico's most comprehensive community college and offers students various associate's degrees and certificates in eighty-nine fields of study that are designed to meet the needs of our state's economy; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college is the number one producer of pre-licensure nursing graduates in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college ranks number nine in the nation for the number of early childhood education and teacher education associate's degrees awarded; and

     WHEREAS, the city of Albuquerque and central New Mexico community college are partnering in an effort to bring a film production center of excellence to downtown Albuquerque to serve the growing workforce needs of the state's film industry; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college was named "Innovator of the Year" by the national higher education publication Education Dive for its innovative advancements with blockchain technology, including becoming the first community college in the country to provide students with free, student-owned digital diplomas that students can share securely and instantly with employers from their smartphones; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has launched a central New Mexico law enforcement academy in partnership with the Albuquerque police department designed to help address the workforce demand for more police cadets throughout central New Mexico while providing a collegiate, high-quality education and training environment for cadets to learn the law enforcement profession; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college supports entrepreneurship and early-stage businesses through its ingenuity programs such as the IGNITE Community Accelerator, the FUSE Makerspace, Deep Dive Coding and many other innovative endeavors; and

     WHEREAS, the college and career high school on central New Mexico community college's main campus, a partnership between central New Mexico community college and Albuquerque public schools, received an "A" rating in 2018 for the fifth straight year from the New Mexico public education department's Annual School Grading Report; and the high school scored second highest in the state in 2018 among traditional public high schools and third highest among all high schools, including charter schools; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has shown impressive dedication to its vision of "Changing Lives, Building Community"; and

     WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college remains dedicated to its mission of being a leader in education and workforce training;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it congratulate central New Mexico community college for its many achievements and many valuable contributions to New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 7, 2019 be declared "Central New Mexico Community College Day" in the senate to honor and showcase the tremendous impacts the college makes on the economic well-being of our state and its citizens; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of central New Mexico community college.
