A MEMORIAL
DECLARING FEBRUARY 25, 2019 "WEAR RED DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, according to American heart association statistics, cardiovascular disease is the number-one killer of women in the United States; and
WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease kills approximately one woman every eighty seconds in the United States; and
WHEREAS, about eighty percent of cardiovascular disease may be prevented; and
WHEREAS, some risk factors for heart disease, such as blood pressure, smoking and cholesterol, can be controlled; and
WHEREAS, women are encouraged to commit to making physical activity and healthy eating a priority to improve heart health; and
WHEREAS, the American heart association's go red for women movement motivates women to learn their family histories and to meet with a health care provider to determine their risks for cardiovascular disease and stroke; and
WHEREAS, go red for women encourages women to take control of their heart health by knowing their total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (hdl) good cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 25, 2019 be declared "Wear Red Day" in the house of representatives in recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the secretary of health.
