SENATE EDUCATION COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR
SENATE BILL 667
54th legislature - STATE OF NEW MEXICO - first session, 2019
AN ACT
RELATING TO THE PUBLIC PEACE, HEALTH, SAFETY AND WELFARE; MAKING APPROPRIATIONS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--
A. The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2020 for the following purposes:
(1) nine hundred forty-four thousand dollars ($944,000) for American Indian student services for student recruitment and retention, summer bridge programs and academic, cultural and financial advisement; and
(2) five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) for the American Indian language policy, research and teacher training center.
B. The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university for the following purposes:
(1) for the Ben Lujan leadership institute, six hundred twenty-five thousand dollars ($625,000) for bachelor's and master's degrees, administrative licensure, teacher recruitment and retention and parental institutes;
(2) for the center for the education and study of diverse populations, seven hundred seventy-five thousand dollars ($775,000) for teacher training, staff development, curriculum development, culturally responsive leadership, English language learner development standards, bilingual support, instructional leadership and youth leadership;
(3) for the school of social work, two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) for the Native American social workers institute; and
(4) for American Indian student services, two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) for student support, academic and financial advisement, student retention and internships.
C. Three hundred thirty-seven thousand dollars ($337,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for the college of education's American Indian program.
D. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2020 shall revert to the general fund.
