AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS; PROHIBITING THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT FROM REQUIRING THE USE OF PARTNERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT OF READINESS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREERS ASSESSMENTS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:
SECTION 1. A new section of the Assessment and Accountability Act is enacted to read:
"[NEW MATERIAL] ACADEMIC ASSESSMENTS--USE OF PARTNERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT OF READINESS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREERS ASSESSMENT PROHIBITED.--Beginning no later than with the 2020-2021 school year, the department shall not require school districts or charter schools to administer or use the standards-based assessment commonly referred to as the partnership for assessment of readiness for college and careers, or PARCC, but rather shall require school districts and charter schools to use a different assessment that the department designs or contracts for the design of."
