AN ACT

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES; PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL REGISTRATION PLATE TO EXPRESS SUPPORT FOR ACEQUIA AND COMMUNITY DITCH ASSOCIATIONS; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Motor Vehicle Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] SPECIAL ACEQUIA AND COMMUNITY DITCH ASSOCIATIONS REGISTRATION PLATE.--

          A. The department shall issue a standardized registration plate with a logo specified in Section 66-3-424 NMSA 1978 to express support for acequia and community ditch associations.

           B. For a fee of thirty dollars ($30.00), which is in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fees, the owner of a motor vehicle may apply for issuance of a special acequia and community ditch association registration plate. The owner shall apply for and pay the fee each year to retain and renew the special acequia and community ditch association registration plate.

          C. The revenue from the special acequia and community ditch association registration plate fee imposed pursuant to Subsection B of this section shall be distributed as follows:

                (1) ten dollars ($10.00) of the fee collected for each registration plate shall be retained by the department and is appropriated to the department for the manufacture and issuance of the special registration plates; and

                (2) twenty dollars ($20.00) of the fee collected for each registration plate shall be appropriated to the acequia and community ditch fund."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2019.
