A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE BRAVERY OF STATE POLICE SERGEANT JONATHAN TENORIO.
WHEREAS, on the evening of January 6, 2018, state police Sergeant Jonathan Tenorio found himself chasing a wrong-way driver on interstate 25 near the big I in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, the driver of the white pickup was driving south in the northbound lanes and was suspected of driving while intoxicated; and
WHEREAS, it was Sergeant Tenorio's quick thinking in a dangerous situation and his use of a PIT maneuver, also known as pursuit intervention technique, that averted what could have been a disaster, with multiple crashes and possible injuries or deaths, by forcing the pickup truck into the concrete barrier; and
WHEREAS, as the sergeant noted at the time, "Body [automobile] damage can get replaced. Lives can't, so I'll take this any day", referring to the three patrol cars that were damaged during the DWI stop, one of them totaled;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that state police Sergeant Jonathan Tenorio be recognized for his bravery and for risking his life to ensure the safety of others; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Sergeant Tenorio be commended for carrying out the New Mexico state police mission of protecting New Mexico residents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to state police Sergeant Jonathan Tenorio.
