A MEMORIAL

REQUESTING THE GOVERNOR TO DECLARE APRIL 13, 2018 "NATIVE AMERICAN HEALTHY FAMILY DAY" IN NEW MEXICO.

 

     WHEREAS, Native American families set good examples because they are successful and proud of their traditions and language, and all of this is sacred and beautiful; and

     WHEREAS, it is important to support and recognize that there are happy, successful families in the American Indian community based on their achievements; and

     WHEREAS, the American Indian women's center honors the positive and successful lives of American Indian families; and

     WHEREAS, the American Indian women's center recognizes thriving businesses, doctors in medical practices, attorneys in legal practices, community leaders and traditional healers and the good they are doing in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, there are residents from more than three hundred tribes from across the nation who live in New Mexico for education, employment and opportunities to create businesses; and

     WHEREAS, acknowledgment is due for American Indian families as productive members of society who are proud of their traditional dress, jewelry, language and all that is sacred and beautiful; and

     WHEREAS, healthy American Indian families and their traditions are important and worthy of celebration;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the governor be requested to declare April 13, 2018 "Native American Healthy Family Day" in New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and the executive director of the American Indian women's center.
