A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING ELOY BRAZIL, MAXWELL MUNICIPAL SCHOOLS BEARS VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH.
WHEREAS, Coach Eloy Brazil, a graduate of Cimarron high school in Colfax county, was a star basketball player; and
WHEREAS, his first year of coaching boys varsity basketball was at Cimarron high school in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil led the Cimarron rams boys varsity team to its first state championship in school history just three seasons later, in 1979; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil spent fourteen seasons coaching the Cimarron rams boys basketball team to hundreds of wins and several state tournament appearances; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil went on to coach at Springer high school for sixteen seasons and led the Springer red devils boys varsity basketball teams to two state titles and several state tournament appearances during his tenure; and
WHEREAS, he has coached male and female athletes not only in basketball, but in other sports as well; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil began coaching the Maxwell bears boys varsity team in 2012, leading the team to the school's first-ever state title in the 2017 class A state boys basketball championship; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil was one of twenty-three high school coaches from across the country selected as 2016-2017 national coaches of the year by the national federation of state high school associations coaches association; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brazil received the 2016-2017 national coaches of the year award for coaching boys basketball at Maxwell municipal schools; and
WHEREAS, he has coached boys and girls in New Mexico communities for over forty years and has devoted his life to teaching youth not only the game of basketball but also the game of life;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Coach Eloy Brazil be recognized for his dedication to the youth of Colfax county communities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Coach Eloy Brazil be congratulated for his long and continuing career as head basketball coach, celebrating the 2017 class A state boys basketball championship with the Maxwell bears boys varsity basketball team; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Coach Eloy Brazil.
