A MEMORIAL
DECLARING FEBRUARY 7, 2018 "HELP-NEW MEXICO, INC., DAY" IN THE SENATE IN HONOR OF THAT ORGANIZATION'S RICH TRADITION OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AND COMMITMENT.
WHEREAS, HELP-New Mexico, inc., was created and incorporated as the home education livelihood program, inc., in 1965 by the interdenominational New Mexico council of churches and its successor, the New Mexico conference of churches and church women united; and
WHEREAS, the founders included pastors, ranchers, farmworkers, housewives, businesspeople and government workers; and
WHEREAS, HELP-New Mexico, inc., is governed by a diverse board of directors representing the public, businesses, low-income individuals, Native Americans, parents and other community members; and
WHEREAS, over the past fifty-three years, HELP-New Mexico, inc., has provided services to more than nine hundred fifty thousand individuals and families, including migrant families, self-employed farmers and ranchers, low-income families, abused and neglected children, senior citizens, people with disabilities and disadvantaged youth; and
WHEREAS, the current portfolio of HELP-New Mexico, inc., includes adult education, job training, early childhood development and education, youth development and care, housing construction, rural health clinics, land development, job placement, literacy training, affordable housing, nutritious meals and family counseling; and
WHEREAS, HELP-New Mexico, inc., is a self-sufficient, sustainable organization, well-known and respected throughout the state and nationally as the largest and most effective service provider in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, the history of HELP-New Mexico, inc., provides a solid base for growth, and the organization looks toward the future; and
WHEREAS, HELP-New Mexico, inc., will continue to provide to low-income New Mexicans family-centered, high-quality care in offices located throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, HELP-New Mexico, inc., has been recognized as a primary resource center for low-income families and communities designed around effective partnerships to support client access to comprehensive services; and
WHEREAS, HELP-New Mexico, inc., seeks to reflect the values and priorities of being self-sufficient, socially accepting, nondiscriminatory and effective; and
WHEREAS, the governing and advisory boards of HELP-New Mexico, inc., strive to be active, involved and effective at both oversight and fundraising;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 7, 2018 be declared "HELP-New Mexico, Inc., Day" in the senate in honor of the organization's rich tradition of community service and commitment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that HELP-New Mexico, inc., be recognized for the superior services it provides throughout twenty-two counties in New Mexico; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the chief executive officer of HELP-New Mexico, inc.
