A MEMORIAL

DECLARING JANUARY 29, 2018 "NEW MEXICO STATE-CHARTERED CAREER AND TECHNICAL STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, business professionals of America; distributive education clubs of America; family, career and community leaders of America; future health professionals; skillsUSA; and the technology student association have been vital state-chartered youth leadership organizations in New Mexico for more than seventy years; and

     WHEREAS, these six state-chartered career and technical student organizations sponsor chapters in rural and urban areas throughout the state; and

     WHEREAS, more than six thousand youths in middle school, high school and post-secondary educational institutions participate in these youth leadership organizations, engaging students in career pathways with national certifications; and

      WHEREAS, state-chartered career and technical student organization youth development programs are diverse and help participants to acquire important career and life skills, such as leadership, responsible citizenship, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and communication skills; and

     WHEREAS, these skills directly contribute to the successful transition of young people into productive adults who may enter college, the military or the workforce; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico state-chartered career and technical student organizations day is meant to increase awareness and garner support for education, innovation, entrepreneurship and career success; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico celebrates career and technical education programs for their contributions to the development and expansion of New Mexico's economy by providing a highly skilled and academically prepared workforce; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico's governing bodies are encouraged to attract industries that offer high-paying jobs requiring high skills in the fields of business; marketing; technology; medicine and health; hospitality; tourism; information technology; finance; human services; education; science, technology, engineering and mathematics; public safety; construction; welding; logistics; manufacturing; architecture; and communications; and

     WHEREAS, these six state-chartered career and technical student organizations prepare students to contribute to the state's economic development and to the nation's demands in meeting workforce needs; and

     WHEREAS these six state-chartered career and technical student organizations provide business and industry partnership opportunities and offer hands-on, experiential classroom training;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 29, 2018 be declared "New Mexico State-Chartered Career and Technical Student Organizations Day" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the contributions of business professionals of America; distributive education clubs of America; family, career and community leaders of America; future health professionals; skillsUSA; and the technology student association be recognized; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that academic and technical skills training and certifications for high-skill, high-paying jobs be supported by the state; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the governor and the director of the New Mexico career technical leadership project.
