A MEMORIAL

HONORING REPRESENTATIVE BILL MCCAMLEY AND RECOGNIZING HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO NEW MEXICO.

     WHEREAS, Representative Bill McCamley, a Democrat, will be leaving office after serving three terms in the house of representatives; and

     WHEREAS, since 2013, Representative McCamley has represented district 33, covering Dona Ana county; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is the chair of the labor and economic development committee and a member of the energy, environment and natural resources committee and the rules and order of business committee; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is also the chair of the interim New Mexico finance authority oversight committee; and

     WHEREAS, prior to serving in the legislature, Representative McCamley was the youngest county commissioner ever elected to the Dona Ana county commission, and he served from 2004 to 2008; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley has passed bipartisan legislation with Representative Candy Spence Ezzell for state land remediation; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is a strong supporter of clean energy; economic development, including along the border with Mexico; legalizing cannabis for recreational use; and fighting for a fair tax system; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is known for his sharp, impassioned speeches when advocating for the causes he supports; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley was born on a military base in Pusan, South Korea, where his father was stationed in the United States army; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is a graduate of Mayfield high school in Las Cruces and received a bachelor of arts degree in government from New Mexico state university in 2001 and a master of public policy degree from the John F. Kennedy school of government at Harvard university in 2003; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is a business outreach director; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley's mother, Linda, and sister, Maureen, support his endeavors; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley has very fond memories of his father, who taught him that responsibility is a primary value, and it is something that Representative McCamley refers to often; and

     WHEREAS, Representative McCamley is leaving his legislative career to pursue the race for state auditor;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Representative Bill McCamley be recognized for his dedication to the representation and well-being of the people of New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Representative Bill McCamley.
