A MEMORIAL

HONORING THE SACRIFICE AND SERVICES RENDERED BY GRANT COUNTY AND OTHER NEW MEXICO WORLD WAR II VETERANS.

     WHEREAS, on August 14, 1945, Japan formally surrendered, ending World War II, the bloodiest conflict in human history; and

     WHEREAS, Grant county residents Andrew Bryce, Jack W. Burk, Samuel P. Corral, William C. Daily, Felipe de Ortego y Gasca, James W. Harrison, Frederick R. Lafferty, Jr., Wayne A. Manning, Daniel M. McBride, Jacob R. Miller, Porfirio Perez, Leonard Pritikin, Lou E. Pruit, Thomas D. Rane, Frank M. Rogers, Gene Stailey, Arthur K. Veeder, Joseph P. Lloyd, Robert Johnson, Eugene Lewis and many other New Mexicans answered the nation's call and served with honor in the armed forces of the United States during that bloody conflict; and

     WHEREAS, the devotion, sacrifice and service rendered by the men listed above and other men and women of New Mexico who served helped preserve and shape the freedoms and prosperity enjoyed by all New Mexicans today; and

     WHEREAS, the selfless devotion of these men and women to the nation and to the cause of freedom and human dignity everywhere should be remembered and honored every day, but certainly on Veterans' day when the nation honors all veterans for their service for the common good;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Grant county residents Andrew Bryce, Jack W. Burk, Samuel P. Corral, William C. Daily, Felipe de Ortego y Gasca, James W. Harrison, Frederick R. Lafferty, Jr., Wayne A. Manning, Daniel M. McBride, Jacob R. Miller, Porfirio Perez, Leonard Pritikin, Lou E. Pruit, Thomas D. Rane, Frank M. Rogers, Gene Stailey, Arthur K. Veeder, Joseph P. Lloyd, Robert Johnson, Eugene Lewis and those other New Mexicans who answered the nation's call and served with honor in the armed forces of the United States during World War II should be honored; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the governor be requested to issue a proclamation on Veterans' day, November 11, 2018, honoring these men and women; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the office of the governor and the veterans' services department.
