A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 10, 2018 "PUBLIC EMPLOYEES APPRECIATION DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, public employees, including all state, county and municipal employees, are essential to delivering vital public services in New Mexico, to every county and every corner of the state; and

     WHEREAS, public employees are dedicated and committed to their work and have made careers in many public professions; and

     WHEREAS, these employees work in public safety, blue-collar, clerical, white-collar and management professions; and

     WHEREAS, public safety professionals are responsible for keeping the public safe in a wide variety of jobs, including police officer, firefighter, correctional and detention officer, security officer, emergency medical service provider, emergency medical technician, 911 dispatcher and others; and

     WHEREAS, blue-collar professionals are responsible for keeping towns and cities clean and ensuring safe drinking water, safe wastewater facilities, safe solid waste removal and safe places for children to play by keeping public parks clean; and

     WHEREAS, clerical professionals, who perform a wide variety of tasks and in many cases deal directly with the public, serve as critical resources to help carry out the mission of state and local governments; and

     WHEREAS, management and white-collar professionals manage the day-to-day operations of many government facilities, act as bridges between ideas and implementation and protect core constitutional rights; and

     WHEREAS, public employees are vital to the health of New Mexico's economy and communities by purchasing goods and services from local businesses and volunteering with local charities, neighborhood associations, places of faith and schools; and

     WHEREAS, public employees should be recognized for their dedication and commitment to their professions and for being integral to making New Mexico a great place to live;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the contributions of public employees be recognized; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 10, 2018 be declared "Public Employees Appreciation Day" in the house of representatives.
