A MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 1, 2018 "CENTRAL NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY COLLEGE DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has provided unprecedented access in New Mexico to affordable higher education for fifty-three years; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college serves the state's largest undergraduate student body by providing relevant, real-world career and technical training, as well as courses and degrees that transfer to four-year state universities; and
WHEREAS, in the 2014-2015 academic year, central New Mexico community college ranked number one in the country among more than one thousand one hundred community colleges for the number of associate degrees and certificates earned by both Hispanics and Native Americans, and central New Mexico community college ranked number two in the nation for the total number of associate degrees and certificates awarded; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college is considered New Mexico's leading community college and offers students more than one hundred programs of study that are designed to meet the needs of the state's economy; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college recently became the first higher education institution in New Mexico to receive accreditation to offer a competency-based education program; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has made significant contributions to supporting entrepreneurship and early-stage businesses through the college's ingenuity programs such as the IGNITE community accelerator, the FUSE makerspace and many other innovative endeavors; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college ingenuity's nonprofit deep dive coding boot camps and the New Mexico information technology apprenticeship program are training the workforce for the economy of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college offers more online courses and distance learning sections than any other higher education institution in New Mexico; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college has partnered with the university of New Mexico on a seamless pathway for students to start at central New Mexico community college and within five years graduate from the university of New Mexico with a master's degree in business administration; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college, central New Mexico community college ingenuity and the New Mexico rural electric cooperative association have partnered to bring the association's statewide lineworker electric power training facility to the central New Mexico community college's Rio Rancho campus; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college is striving to attract students from across the world to its campuses and provide more study abroad opportunities for local students through the new global education initiative; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college remains dedicated to its mission of being a leader in education and workforce training; and
WHEREAS, central New Mexico community college provides invaluable contributions to New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 1, 2018 be declared "Central New Mexico Community College Day" in the house of representatives to honor and showcase the tremendous impacts that central New Mexico community college has on the economic well-being of the state and its residents; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the president of central New Mexico community college.
