A MEMORIAL

DECLARING FEBRUARY 21, 2017 "ST. FELIX PANTRY DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, the St. Felix pantry, which incorporated in 1992, is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides food, clothing, household items and referral services free of charge to people in need; and

     WHEREAS, for over twenty years, St. Felix pantry has served as a safety net for people struggling to support their families in times of crisis; and

     WHEREAS, the need for the kind of services offered by St. Felix pantry has grown in relationship to the economic downturn; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico ranks forty-eighth in the poverty rating for the United States, and almost twenty percent of New Mexicans live below the poverty line; and

     WHEREAS, currently, St. Felix pantry provides groceries for the equivalent of one million five hundred thousand meals per year; and

     WHEREAS, St. Felix pantry feeds more than six thousand nine hundred ten registered households weekly, serving children, older adults, veterans and single parents;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that St. Felix pantry, incorporated, be recognized for its valuable community outreach and for the contributions it makes to people in need; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 21, 2017 be declared "St. Felix Pantry Day" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to St. Felix pantry, incorporated.
