A MEMORIAL
DECLARING FEBRUARY 7, 2017 "NEW MEXICO ARCHITECTS DAY" IN THE SENATE.
WHEREAS, New Mexico architects create more vibrant, equitable living environments that embody New Mexico's democratic ideals, which are visible in cities and towns throughout the state; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico architects are leaders in demonstrating how the built environment is fundamental to a healthy society and showcase how the thoughtful and responsible practice of architecture is an essential ingredient in addressing the inherent opportunities, challenges and inequities in New Mexico communities; and
WHEREAS, human survival depends on a more sustainable built environment, and New Mexico architects' leadership in sustainability enables architects to build with public health in mind and positively impacts the lives of users; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico architects continue to combine advances in building technology with design innovation to enliven communities and improve the quality of life for individuals; and
WHEREAS, the architect profession in New Mexico has been vigilant in its stewardship of many of the state's great architectural and historic treasures; and
WHEREAS, the American institute of architects New Mexico, which is the New Mexico chapter of the American institute of architects, advocates for its more than five hundred members in its efforts to build healthy, safe, livable and sustainable communities that benefit all of the people of New Mexico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state recognize the value of architecture in the lives of New Mexicans; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that February 7, 2017 be declared "New Mexico Architects Day" in the senate; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the American institute of architects New Mexico.
