A MEMORIAL
RECOGNIZING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF BONNIE STEPLETON.
WHEREAS, Bonnie Stepleton has been chosen by the women's law caucus of the university of New Mexico school of law as a 2016 Justice Mary Walters honoree; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton is being honored as an outstanding woman in the New Mexico legal community to honor the name of former Justice Mary Walters, who was the first woman appointed to the New Mexico supreme court; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton will be recognized at an awards dinner on February 24, 2016 in Albuquerque; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton has been an attorney in New Mexico for nearly thirty years; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton has been in private practice, has represented and advocated for disabled persons and has served as the dean of students at the university of New Mexico school of law for ten years; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton is the mediation bureau chief for the workers' compensation administration; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton regularly makes presentations on the topic of alternative dispute resolution and is passionate about mediation as a tool in litigation; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton is well-regarded in the legal community; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton has been a positive influence on many people, notably law students, many of whom she continues to support; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Stepleton has a down-to-earth manner and an uncanny ability to see the big picture, all the while noting both the forest and the trees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Bonnie Stepleton be recognized for her outstanding accomplishments in the legal community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Ms. Stepleton be congratulated for being chosen by the women's law caucus of the university of New Mexico school of law as a 2016 Justice Mary Walters honoree; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Bonnie Stepleton.
