A MEMORIAL
DECLARING JANUARY 28, 2016 "SOUTHWEST COMMUNITY SCHOOL COLLABORATIVE DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
WHEREAS, the Southwest community school collaborative works to reduce the number of students who go from school to prison by involving students, parents and community programs in the lives of students to promote positive relationships among youths, families and adults; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Southwest community school collaborative is to provide students who have violated the law or have negative behaviors with support services as an alternative to arrest or suspension; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest community school collaborative engages families, schools and community partners in advancing the welfare of students and in providing opportunities for successful educational outcomes; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest community school collaborative has created an open environment for communities and families to help children become successful adults; and
WHEREAS, the Southwest community school collaborative works with the administration of Atrisco heritage academy high school in Albuquerque to reduce suspension and dropout rates and to promote positive student success outcomes; and
WHEREAS, the Atrisco heritage academy high school staff strives to provide students with the educational skills to become productive citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 28, 2016 be declared "Southwest Community School Collaborative Day", a day of communal efforts in the house of representatives for supporting students, families and staff; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the principal of Atrisco heritage academy high school and the resource officer of the Albuquerque public school district police department.
