A MEMORIAL

CONGRATULATING THE 2014 ARTESIA HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM.

     WHEREAS, Artesia high school football is legendary in New Mexico; and

     WHEREAS, in Artesia, high school football is a rite of passage for the players and a passion for the fans; and

     WHEREAS, the Artesia bulldogs extended the legend by winning the 2014 New Mexico high school football championship; and

     WHEREAS, this championship marks the twenty-eighth state championship for Artesia high school football teams; and

     WHEREAS, since 1957, when Artesia won its first state championship, Artesia has established a tradition of being called "the city of champions"; and

     WHEREAS, in this modern era of high school football, Artesia has distinguished itself by winning more state championships than any other high school in the nation; and

     WHEREAS, the team members, head coaches Reese Smith, L.G. Henderson, Mike Phipps, T.W. Harvey, Cooper Henderson and the assistant coaches are to be congratulated for having dedicated themselves to the hard work necessary to establish and maintain the Artesia football legacy; and

     WHEREAS, the community of Artesia and the Artesia public schools are to be thanked and commended for their enthusiastic support of Artesia football;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that members of the Artesia football team be congratulated for winning the 2014 New Mexico high school football championship; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the team members and coaches of the 2014 Artesia high school football team.
